Awards Day

Thursday was Drew's last day of first grade. We all went to his class pizza party and then stayed for the awards ceremony. Drew got three awards:
A Honor Roll, Accelerated Reader Achievement, and the Citizenship Award.
We are SO proud of him. He really worked hard to maintain his good grades. He is reading above his grade level because of his participation in the accelerated reader program, and he was the only boy chosen by his teacher to receive the citizenship award because he showed integrity, honesty, kindness, and compassion to his classmates through out the year. When they called his name I seriously wanted to jump up and down and cheer for him like a good old classy red-neck mamma, but I stifled my urges, and just clapped violently. I'm just SO proud of him and all of his hard work, and I know this is just the beginning of many successes to come.

Sitting Up

Maddi has started to sit up on her own. She's still a little wobbly because she's always trying to bend over to play with her toes, and once her noggin starts going forward, she tends to topple right over. But she loves sitting up like a big girl, and doesn't seem to mind the occasional tumble.

As I'm watching my sweet little girl grow so quickly, I have been consumed with thoughts of how to be the mother that my sweet babies deserve. I am constantly reminding myself that although I am staring at beautiful children, my goal is to raise amazing adults... adults that can thrive with confidence, self esteem, and self motivation. It terrifies me to know that my every act shapes their futures. The scars from my past still haunt me every day. Unkind words and unkind hands have jaded me. The most common sound or object can flood my tainted mind with horrible memories, fear, and insecurity. I know I can't possibly be a perfect parent (See my earlier post about not feeding Drew. Sorry babe!), but I do know that I refuse to mess up on the big things. My children will never doubt my unconditional love for them; I will always sacrifice for their well being over my own, and maybe the memories that we make together will heal my own wounds.

Field Trips, Picnics, Baths, and Brothers

This post is a hodge podge of events, but we've had a busy week with family visiting and the school year coming to an end.
Drew's class picnic was yesterday. We got to go eat lunch with him and then play outside for a few hours. I'm burnt to a crisp, but we had fun spending the day with Drew and his classmates.

Drew had a field trip to the library and then to kids space. Uncle Greg was here visiting, so he got to go with us. It was pretty chilly, so we left a little early, but it was still fun.

Ben came to visit, and we got to celebrate his birthday while he was here. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOO BOO!

Maddi loves bath time now. She plays and splashes and giggles. It's precious. Unfortunetly she also has a dirty little habbit of peeing on me while I run her bath water. :( So it quickly becomes bath/mommy changes clothes/sterilize the counter tops/mop the floor time. One of these days I'll learn to coordinate the whole bath prep/getting supplies/diaper off process, but apparently it takes a little practice.

Double Zeros

Today is a fantabulous day!! I finally squeezed myself into my prepregnancy size 00 pants. YAY! It wasn't exactly as I had dreamed the experience would be. There was a whole lot of tugging and pulling and jumping around, and there were some seriously disgusting love handles billowing over the sides, but they were on, buttoned, AND zipped. I still haven't lost that much weight since I've started working out, but I'm slowly toning up the flabbiness. Hopefully in a few months, I will be able to put my sexy little bitty pants on AND be able to breathe after they're all zipped up. Hey... a girl can dream :)
